I’m here to bring you all kinds of bitchin’ news on happenin’ indie artists full of creativity and talent, and this one’s no exception. Tonight, Friday, November 18, at The Empire Room in Austin, TX, they will be showcasing the very popular EDM artist Phutureprimitive. For those of you unfamiliar with EDM, we’re talking about electronic dance music, and Phutureprimitive’s sound is nothing short of stimulating and soulful.

Hailing from Portland, OR, Phutureprimitive is the moniker of Bay Area producer and songwriter Rain. He fell into music and found passion and refuge after a car accident resulted in some insurance money. With that bread, Rain bought a musical instrument that would set the course for his life path.

After starting out playing piano as a child, Rain was later drawn to electronic music after being inspired by its ability to combine the best of organically played instruments and the synthetic pleasures of sounds more exotic to the human ear, as Traver Boehm points out in his Uncivilized podcast.

In the 90s, Rain set out on a DJ career and began incorporating his own music into his sets. And the rest, as they say, is history, thus beginning a “full-blown love affair” with EDM and its process of creation. And that’s how Phutureprimitive was born.

The music of Phutureprimitive is so much more than just music. It’s trippy, psychedelic, heady, weird, serene, and meditative, and whether you know who he is or not, I guarantee his talents will be the best treat your sweet little ears have heard in a while.

His music is unique in its own right with tunes full of rich melodies that glide across intricate rhythms, groovy beats, and hearty, fuzzy bass lines. From moments of joy, sadness, rage, and/or pain, music is always there to comfort and guide us. Rain’s music explores “a dark and dense palette” while conveying a sense of peace and tranquility and sheer beauty that incites listeners to engage in hypnotic movement, which often escalates into a full-blow kinetic experience. Surrounded with vibrant cinematic qualities, his music, without a doubt, speaks to body, mind, and soul, wholeheartedly.

Personally, I love this guy and his music. Though this will be the first time I’ve gotten to see him live, I can attest to the spiritually stimulating sonic sounds that emanate from his soul. In previous days, my time spent listening to Phutureprimitive surrounded my own spiritual awakening. I can attest that his music only aided my journeys into the void and allowed me to grow spiritually and emerge as a different kind of man, artist, and human being.

This show is one you won’t want to miss if you’re in the Austin area. So, come on out to The Empire Room tonight and buy your $23 ticket.
