I love it when an album or EP proves me wrong. First, before reading any further, do you like punk rock? If you answered “yes”, then continue on. Before hitting play on FOND’s We Can Hang, I thought I had a pretty solid idea of where things were headed based on their previous releases, which I had just listened to. Instead, I spent the next twenty minutes constantly recalibrating my expectations by pressing pause and taking in each song fully. By the time I had finished listening to their new EP, I wasn’t just surprised—I was already queuing it up for another listen without pausing.
Released on May 1, 2026, We Can Hang EP is packed with four tracks of pure pop punk and alternative vibes. Imagine if Weezer, Social Distortion, and Taking Back Sunday teamed up—that’s basically FOND.
FOND got its start in 2024 in Alexandria, Virginia, when four friends—Chris (vocals/guitar), Matt (bass), Rob (drums), and Steve (vocals/guitar)—decided to channel their time in the DC, Richmond, and NYC punk, hardcore, and indie scenes into something new. Before releasing We Can Hang, they dropped a few demos and an EP called Complacent, steadily honing that punk-tinged alt-rock sound you’ll hear throughout this record.
Let’s dive into these tracks, shall we?
Loserville – this is the opening track, and right from the start, you can tell it’s going to be a good time. The song kicks off with a catchy, jangly guitar riff that immediately grabs your attention. Then, the drums and bass jump in, laying down a solid rhythm that keeps everything moving forward. It’s got this effortlessly cool vibe, with a melody that sticks in your head and a groove that makes you want to nod along. Overall, it’s a super fun way to kick off the EP, and it instantly puts you in a good mood.
Peregrine – this track doesn’t waste a single second easing you in. It explodes right into your ears with a full-band jam that feels spontaneous and energetic, like you’ve walked into a party already in full swing. There’s no slow intro here—just pure, unfiltered energy from the first note to the last. The guitars are loud, the drums are relentless, and the whole thing just begs to be played at maximum volume. Seriously, crank it up and let the music take over—it’s the kind of song that makes you want to move around and lose yourself in the moment.
No One Can Laugh – this song takes things in a slightly different direction, leaning into a poppier, more alternative vibe while still fitting in perfectly with the rest of the EP. There’s something about the laid-back vocals that gives it a nostalgic, early-90s feel, kind of like The Lemonheads or other classic alt-rock bands from that era. It’s catchy and upbeat, but there’s also a hint of bittersweetness in the lyrics and melody that makes it stick with you. But truth be told, the vocals are more reminiscent of the late, great Mark Lanegan from Screaming Trees. Great song.
Find Out – closing out the EP, this track leaves a lasting impression. It’s got driving drums and bold guitar lines that keep the momentum going right up to the very end. Honestly, it’s hard not to love this one; it just wraps up the listening experience in the best way possible. Nod your head, and get lost in the groove.
