Top 5 Nostalgia Picks for September 2024
September is upon us, so we’re only one month closer to my favorite month, and I cannot wait. I’ve selected a delectable bunch of tunes that will get you in the groove of all things fall-related.
1. Filter – American Cliché
The Amalgamut is one of those Filter albums that does not get the recognition it deserves, and the track, ‘American Cliché’ is a prime example of a forgotten track that still rocks. As Richard Patrick approaches the chorus, the build gets intense until you’re left singing at the top of your lungs, “Yeah, this is an American cliché, get on the bus.”
2002
2. Rod Stewart – Maggie May
Every time this song comes on, I sing the beginning portion so loudly that I end up scaring my dog. True story. This is one of those feel-good classics that never gets old. Turn it up, and sing your heart out.
1971
3. ZZ Top - Tush
‘Tush’ is one of those classic songs you put on when driving back country roads with a cigarette in hand with the windows down. Turn it up loud.
1975
4. Hole – Gold Dust Woman
When I was a teenager, Hole released this insatiable cover of the Fleetwood Mac classic song, ‘Gold Dust Woman.’ Reinterpreted in such a way that I find the cover to be better than the original, Courtney's vocals on this track were so on point that they gave me chills. A forgotten gem, indeed.
1996
5. Van Halen – Right Now
With lyrics that are more important than ever, Van Halen released this gem in the 90s to much acclaim, and it even became part of a nationwide campaign for Crystal Pepsi. True story. A departure from the classic VH rock sound but indicative of the creativity that can occur between seasoned musicians, ‘Right Now’ serves as a reminder that we must seize all moments sent to us to shape our destinies. Not later. Right now.
1991
Hey, if you don't like these, cool. If you've never heard them, check them out!
Love and light,
